Hello hello. My name is Haleh Mawson, and I'm a ecology and biology third year. I'm excited for our discussion later, and also, perhaps oddly, excited to meet someone from Australia. I've never met anyone who has lived there.
(1) Hip hop is a genre that started in marginalized communities in the US and spread pretty quickly to other cultures, almost always as a genre for resistance and activism. It sounds like Australian hip hop is no exception. How do you honor hip hop's long multicultural legacy? Do you see yourself as more a part of a specific hip hop scene, or more of an international artist?
(2) I know a little, at least, of Latino culture in America. I know absolutely nothing about what it's like in Australia. If it's not too personal, what was your experience growing up in Australia as an immigrant from the Americas?
I'd also like to just ask who some of your favorite hip hop artists are. I'm always looking for new music recommendations. Thank you!
