Week 5 Draft Questions - Carter Rowell

1. The song "Sobreviviendo" is about surviving and having strength, but some of the lyrics are "the palm tree will always remain/I bend to sadness" (Sobreviviendo 1:45). How do the ideas of "bending to sadness" and surviving coincide in the message of this song?

2. In "Protesting Trump's Immigration Policy through Song," one of the protesters states that they "just want [immigrants] to be received with more love and empathy" (Contreras). How do you think the method of writing songs and producing art coincides with this goal?

3. In "Farmworks Are Now Deemed Essential," it is stated that many farmworkers are "going to continue working" even if they get sick. Why do you think this is the case, and what should be done to prevent this and protect farmworkers?

4. It is stated that "black and Hispanic families will bear the brunt of this economic crisis" during the coronavirus. How does the coronavirus situation make it harder to practice resilience, as demonstrated in the song "Sobreviviendo"?
