Week 5 Draft Questions - Emily Eckey

  1. In “‘Sobreviviendo’: Immigration Stories and Testimonio in Song,” Martha Gonzalez writes “Each mujer chose a topic that resonated with her but this did not limit our collaboration, as we would often co-write the lyrics or each author a stanza or verse” (Gonzalez). What are the most common topics throughout the Entre Mujeres project?
  2. How does the idea of “la válvula de los recuerdos,” or “the memory valve” discussed by Martha Gonzalez contribute to the healing process of testimonio?
  3. Martha Gonzalez explains how “Sobreviviendo” is a “culmination of both primary (immigrant women in Santa Barbara) and secondary (Santos in Xalapa) testimonio sources” (Gonzalez). What is the importance of speaking to the impact of migration from multiple perspectives?
  4. In “Undocumented  and unprotected farmworkers in the time of COVID-19,” Monica Campbell discusses how “little has been done to protect farmworkers, many of whom are undocumented and work in remote, rural parts of the country with little access to health and social services” (Campbell). What are methods farmers can employ in order to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 for their workers?
