Monday Draft Questions

1. I really liked the ideas brought up in chapter 3 Altar, Altar, Altar, about female agency being found through domestic of “folk” arts and spirituality. I’m curious to know what others think about art and spirituality as a means of agency.

2. I’m curious to know what people think of the contrast that is devaluation of Chicana art and spirituality with the new age European spirituality movements that now use some of the forms like the Altar as a key/celebrated component of hybrid spirituality?

3. I really loved Esperaza’s words on the three deaths, with the worst being to be forgotten or to no longer live in the memories of beloved ones as well as the emphasis placed on passing down the memories and histories of the family to younger generations. I’m curious to know if any students were raised in homes that had similar beliefs around death and the importance of honoring memory.
