Brainstomr #4- Linda Barragan

In “Dissident Globalizations”, Chela Sandoval talks about dissident globalization. She uses it as a solution for neoliberalism. She brings attention to those that have been “colonized” by being discriminated against and taken out of the majority of society. By creating a different form of globalization and instead of making separate groups for separated people, she believes that bringing all groups together through coalition politics. The different opinions from the people can come together to create a new society that is acceptable to everyone. She believes that because all the separate communities have faced types of oppression and judgment from “normal” society, they can use each other's support as a way to build an even bigger community and make new “norms”. In the “Women Who Rock Archive”, it demonstrates Chela’s view of how social groups such as people of color and queers can come together with their similarities and differences as a way to change the views of the world. In “Women Who Rock Archive”, it is also apparent how women have been able to use music as a way to build community and fight for their beliefs. This breakthrough in a typically male-dominated industry brings power to women. Throughout many of the reading, it is very apparent how many women have used their careers as a way to be activists at the same time. These women have been able to show their hard work and beliefs doing what they enjoy and through that, it sends a message to a multitude of women. It is very empowering to see what these amazing women have done and it shows how strong women are.
