Neoliberalism relies on separation and division in order to create distinct groups that can then fight amongst themselves in order to keep them distracted from the damage that is being done. Dissent globalization does the opposite. It instead aims to bring people together from all walks of life in order to fight together against the forces oppressing them all. In addition to being the opposite of neoliberalism it also serves as a remedy to it as it ends up targeting neoliberalist ideas. Neoliberalism and the policies that accompany it are exactly the kind of thing that dissent globalization attacks. Neoliberalism is not for the people, in fact it is much more against the proletariat and for the capitalist. It works by obscuring the true damage it is doing between the divisions it causes amongst groups of people it helps create along the lines of race, gender, religion and others. By bringing these groups together the ideas behind dissent globalization are able to fix the hidden (as well as non hidden) damages of Neoliberalism.
We can see the ideas of differential consciousness in the Womxn Who Rock project and unconference. It brings together people of different cultures with different identities and allows them to connect through music. Not only are participants connecting in a safe space but they are also breaking barriers that the industry sets for womxn in rock. So they are able to work toward de-colonizing the industry through their unification.
I thought that the Queer Golbalization piece was quite interesting though some parts were a bit confusing, there were some terms, like “social-erotics”, which I didn’t completely understand the use of. I wasn’t sure if the article was referring to eroticism literally or social eroticicsm in that the movement is socially appealing. I came into the second understanding as I neared the end of the reading but wasn't sure if it was right.
