Brainstorm #4

By: YuYu Madigan

Sandoval’s article “Dissident Globalizations,” proposes “dissident globalization” as a remedy to Martinez's definition of neoliberalism by creating a coalition, a political support system, of those affected by oppressive measures. It creates a new community built on diversity and strength in shared experiences which is wholly dependent upon the activism and self-advocacy in order to decolonize society.  Sandoval believes that anyone who has experienced their identity being stripped away from them and unable to practice their individualism and celebrate culture has the right to join this coalition. These ideas are identical to Martinez's solution which is simply to empower those most affected and rise up together.

Furthermore, Sandoval proposes the idea of differential consciousness as a mode or method of resilience which is seen through the Womxn who Rock  because artists of all different backgrounds an identities who express themselves in a wide array of mediums are brought together to celebrate their individuality and contributions to the industry. This type of conference exemplifies the values from Sandoval's article by creating a method of expression for the oppressed and those who have magnificently broken down barriers to entry together rather than separately. It creates a physical safe space to advocate for social justice and support one another.
