4/13 Draft Questions

1. In “Introduction: Invocation, Ofrenda” Perez states that the Chicano/a movement for civil rights created an impact that “is now felt in Mexico and Europe as well” (Perez 10). How has the Chicano/a movement impacted these other cultures and countries?
2. Mesa-Banes states that “Las Mujeres Muralistas was formed to give working artists a support structure and only included women” (Mesa-Banes 315). This group only consisted of women, but did it also primarily focus on female artists, or did it provide a support structure for Chicano artists in general within the Chicano/a movement?
3. In “La Ofrenda,” it is stated that El Dia de los Muertos and ofrendas are about the people who have died and “keeping their memory alive” (Portillo 21:55).  What items are customary to use for the ofrendas? Are items used that represent people you know who have passed away or people who have passed away in general?
