Monday Draft Questions

1) In La Ofrenda: Days of the Dead, Lourdes Portillo portrays some of the customs and traditions of the celebration. A man from Oaxaca talks about the importance of matachines and skulls for the Day of the Dead. How do you think these depictions and forms of art enhance the celebration and make individuals feel about the thought of death? (23:16)

3) In El Mundo Feminino: Chicana Artists of the Movement - A Commentary On Development and Production, Amalia Mesa-Bains discusses a ritual saying "They dug a hole in the center of the room. She summoned one of the little boys to go out to the field and get some plants to burn" (Mesa-Bains, 310). What do you think the significance of this tradition is?
