Monday Draft Questions - Abby Hecko

  1. In the movie, "La Ofrenda," they discuss how death is lovable and something to be celebrated (39:15), I am wondering if people celebrate the death of women different than the death of men? Earlier in the film, there were clips of a skit on the first day where they were making fun of gender, and I am wondering if that translates into the celebration of death.

  1. On page 3 of "Introduction: Invocation, Ofrenda,"  spirituality is brought up and discussed as an important part of the Chicana movement. For someone who isn't religious and doesn't believe in much of this spirituality how can the ideas of it become secular and something everyone, including those who are not spiritual, can relate to their Chicana feminist lives?

  1. In the first minutes of "La Ofrenda," you see many people setting up and getting ready for Day of. the Dead. Many of these seem to be based on gender roles, like women cooking and men doing all the heavy lifting. As Chicana feminism has progressed and gender roles have changed, how have these jobs on Day of the Dead changed?
