Monday Discussion Questions 4/20
Natalie Stagnone
1. Gonzalez discusses the ways in which altars “extend beyond [a] community to argue for a new vision of the past” (85). In what ways do altars affect the history that is told and the history that is written?
2. Erick Huerta wrote a blog about Ofelia Espara and commented that Espara “encourages the curious to ask questions.” How does public altars and questions effect Chicana culture? And how does it affect the culture of the person asking?
3. Why do you think that Espara finds it important to share the altars with the public instead of just her own family or the Chicana community?
