Linda Barragan Week 2 Blog Response

Linda Barragan

Between all three different sources that were given to us, it is very clear that the Chicana movement changed the perspectives of many people and caused a break out of many individuals to express their outlooks on society. In Alice Bag's song, "White Justice" she uses her song to express how unfair the social justice system is towards minorities through her lyrics:
"Black clubs, blue collars
Blood red, silver dollars You say justice is colorblind
I know you're lying
I know you're lying" (White Justice , 1:29).
Through her art, she was able to reach a multitude of people to inform them of the social injustices occuring in different communities that most would have not been aware of. Not only does art inform other communities, but it can also inform other Chicanos that had now grown and seen the fight for the Chicana movement. For example, Alice Bag writes, "That day, I saw my knights like the other people in my life: Their capacity for good was matched by their capacity for evil. It almost seemed like diametrically opposed impulses had to exist for the world to make sense" (Chicano Power, pg. 70). Alice Bag expresses how she herself as a Chicana did not realize how true and big the issue was before she was able to see with her own eyes. Through her writing and music, she is able to educate her communities and others.
