In the Laura Perez reading Introduction: Invocation, Ofrenda there is a lot of discussion about how non-western sometimes spiritual expression has been dismissed. Why has this happened, was it inevitable as western ideas were pushed onto indigenous people, or is that simply the natural progression?
Amalia Mesa-Bains in her piece El Mundo Feminino: Chicana Artists of the Movement: A Commentary on Development and Production highlights how many Chicana artists restructure, reposition, or reorchestrate the roles of women in society. Why is this a necessary part of the activism the artists are participating in (even if it is inadvertent)? Or do you think that it isn’t necessary?
