Week 8 Brainstorm - Olivia Brunner-Gaydos

As I read through the two pieces, it became very clear how these movements toward giving nature rights instead of just treating it as property are connected to resilience as well as conviviencia. As mentioned by Andrew Revkin in "Ecuador Grants Constitutional Rights to Nature," bringing in this respect for nature and the world we live in has helped strengthen many communities. It enforces the idea that we need to care for those around us, both people and nature, and in return they will care for us. It is also easy to link to conviviencia in this way. It is harmony and community between the people and the land. Moving toward giving nature rights and following Ecuador is moving toward a more connected world that takes care of itself and has a stronger chance of surviving and thriving in the long run. This idea of community and connection with nature is not utilized and often practiced in the western world which is why we must follow places that do have this standing connection with the land.
