1. In ‘Algorithms of Oppression’, Safiya says that some large
companies put “private interests in promoting certain sites”; do you think
search engines like Google should actively try to prevent monopolies from doing
this? Should they take matters in their own hand for social issues?
2. The medium article
by Basma talked about how social media “led to the passage of the DREAM act,
which continues to benefit youth across the U.S”. Do you think there is any
possibility that decisions like the DREAM act could be passed even without the
use of social media?
3. In ‘Monstrous Children of Pregnant Androids’, it states that
“trans Latinx kinship bonds are created through repeated acts”. How are
these types of bonds viewed by the larger Latino communities? What are the
troubles they face?
4. In ‘Afrofuturism’, Catherine Ramirez raised questions like “What
happens to Chicana/o texts when we
read them as science fiction? To Chicana/o cultural identity?”. Do you think
people within the Chicano community would approve of reading Chicano texts from
this perspective?
